According to statistics from the Open University in Britain, e-learning requires 90% less energy than traditional on-site classroom education, while CO2 emissions per trainee are reduced by 85%. The energy savings derive from fewer travel emissions as well as less paper usage.
Therefore, SQLearn fully embraces the mission of HELMEPA to nurture a high level of environmental consciousness within the ranks of the Greek maritime community with the means of education, information, motivation and publicity.
About HELMEPA:
HELMEPA is the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association; the pioneering voluntary commitment of Greek seafarers and ship owners to safeguard the seas from ship-generated pollution, undertaken in Piraeus, on June 4, 1982. Under the motto “To Save the Seas”, they have consistently supported their initiative to date.
The principal aim of this initiative is for the human element of the Maritime Community to acquire an environmental consciousness and a spirit of safety towards achieving quality shipping, always at the service of humankind. The way to achieve this aim is through a highly-coordinated voluntary effort towards informing, updating, educating and motivating all, from shipowner to the last seafarer.
SQLearn, a Greek company located in Piraeus, is a specialized provider of e-learning services since 2006. The company is dedicated to building a modern approach to maritime training, with a focus to continuously improve safety culture by developing e-learning courses designed using reflective learning techniques and including multimedia and gamification elements to achieve high user engagement and interactivity.
