Every oil tanker of 150 gross tonnage and above, and every ship of 400 gross tonnage and above (other than an oil tanker), must have an Oil Record Book Part I (Machinery space operations) as per regulation 17 of Annex I to MARPOL 73/78 and 33 CFR 151.25.
The Oil Record Book Part I (ORB Part I) is crucial for Port State Control Officers to assess compliance with machinery space operation regulations. Accurate maintenance of the ORB Part I is essential, as discrepancies can lead to thorough inspections and potential penalties. Therefore, responsible personnel must understand the ORB Part I instructions and ensure accurate entries.
This course aims to provide shipboard personnel with a comprehensive understanding of their duties regarding Oil Record Book entries. It covers the statutory framework, the Codes for each operation listed in MARPOL 73/78 Annex I, Appendix III, and their respective item numbers. Shore-based personnel will also benefit by familiarizing themselves with the relevant legislation and requirements.
