Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) is a colorless and highly toxic gas when inhaled, posing severe health risks. Being 19% heavier than air, it tends to accumulate in low-lying areas and confined spaces. Additionally, it is highly flammable and can spontaneously ignite at elevated temperatures, potentially leading to explosions.
Hazardous levels of this gas could exist on ships because of the cargoes or chemicals onboard. Therefore, it is imperative for all crew members working on ships, irrespective of their position, to comprehend the dangers associated with such gases and adhere to the relevant safety procedures diligently.
