Enclosed Space Entry and Rescue online course aims to prepare the individual to understand the procedures that need to be followed in order to enter an enclosed space, to recognize the potential hazards and to complete a rescue operation safely.
Enclosed spaces refer to areas on a ship or maritime facility that are not designed for continuous human occupancy and have limited means of entry and exit. These spaces can pose significant risks to personnel due to potential hazards such as toxic gases, low oxygen levels, or fire. Maritime safety organizations, such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and various national regulations, set guidelines to ensure the safety of personnel working in or around these hazardous environments. Compliance with these regulations is essential for the safety of all crew members aboard. Understanding the nature of enclosed spaces and implementing robust safety measures can significantly reduce the risks associated with working in these areas on ships and marine facilities.
The Enclosed Space Entry & Rescue online course is specifically designed to thoroughly prepare individuals to comprehend and effectively execute the essential procedures that must be adhered to when entering an enclosed space. This training program enables participants to recognize and identify the various potential hazards that may be present in such environments, thereby ensuring they are well-equipped to handle any challenges. Additionally, the course covers the critical aspects of safely completing a rescue operation in case of an emergency, which is paramount in ensuring the safety of all involved.
Among the key topics covered in the Enclosed Space Entry & Rescue online course are Gas Detection Equipment, including its proper calibration, effective communication strategies, main duties of personnel involved, emergency procedures, and specific rescue requirements. The course also emphasizes the correct use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) to ensure that individuals are fully prepared to protect themselves while navigating the complexities of enclosed spaces. Through this curriculum, participants will gain valuable knowledge and skills that are crucial for maintaining safety and conducting successful rescue operations in potentially hazardous settings.
Enclosed Space Entry and Rescue Course Aim & Learning Objectives
Every ship is required to implement specific rules and regulations (ISM code, MCA publication, IMO Resolution A.1050 (27), ISGOTT Chapter 10 and MSC.1/Circ 1401) regarding enclosed space entry, which is considered a potentially hazardous activity on board a vessel. The aim of this course is to prepare the individual to understand the procedures that need to be followed in order to enter an enclosed space, to recognize the potential hazards and to complete a rescue operation safely.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
1) Understand what is considered as an enclosed space.
2) Recognize the hazards associated with enclosed spaces.
3) Comprehend the procedures that need to be followed in order to safely enter an enclosed space.
4) Understand the procedures that need to be followed in order to complete an enclosed space rescue operation safely.
